24 Hour Buddy Training

It  was our first kid free weekend (well 24hours anyway) in over 4 months. Unfortunately the night itself flew past and before we knew it we were picking up Kid X from Aunty N’s. I asked for a pitch report before we picked her up and was informed of the delightfully polite, life of the party girl who was having a fantastic day and in a very good mood indeed.

Obviously when we picked her up we must have gone to the wrong address cause apart from an excitable “Mummy and Daddy” we didn’t get the best reaction. I especially got a shocking reception. Kid X didn’t want a cuddle and the only time she smiled at me was when she proudly shouted “Go Buddy” before grabbing me by the hand and taking me to Aunty N’s picture of Buddy Franklin on the toilet door.

From there we took her home, tried to put her down for an afternoon nap and we were planning on napping too, only to have her scream for a good 20 minutes. Then we gave in and got her up again. We were both exhausted from our night away, especially Wife A who like any 17 week pregnant women struggles for energy and was really exhausted. I tried to distract Kid X by putting on Play School in the lounge room, this worked for half an hour. Until it ended and Kid X decided to run down to the bedroom and have a tantrum whilst banging on the door. So much for mum having an afternoon nap.

So the rest of the afternoon was spent in a cranky cycle, tantrum after tantrum, I think the worst one was over not being able to take the rubbish bag outside. One day I’ll probably have a similar one over Kid X not taking it out when I ask her to. Everything I tried didn’t work, including an attempt to bribe Kid X with a chocolate donut.  Poor Wife A had it a little bit worse than me, Kid X wouldn’t let her do anything in peace. It was like she was getting even at us for leaving her for 24 hours and we hate to think what she might be like when we ever leave for 2 nights.
